Shorthorn Shots of the Week 1/30

Here's the new installment of my "best of" series from The Shorthorn. It was a somewhat slow week this week but that's never an indication of whats to come. I tried some new things this week with shooting wildart and continued to progress in finding emotion while shooting the Mavs (of the UTA variety). Hopefully, if everything works out, there will be a few photo stories in the near future so stay tuned.

Business administration and economics junior Zain Hemani, left, shoots over biology sophomore Justin Varghese while playing a game of "21" on Tuesday at the Maverick Activities Center. Hemani said that he tries to play three or four times a week and likes the great weather so they can play outside. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Shorthorn Shots of the Week 1/22

This is the first of my weekly "best of" posts showing some of my work from the previous week at The Shorthorn. Every week presents a new set of experiences and challenges that I look forward to sharing on the site.
Senior guard Marquez Haynes (0) leaps through defenders Morris Smith IV, left, and Devin Gibson during the second-half of the Mavericks’ 72-66 win over UTSA on Saturday at Texas Hall. Haynes scored a career high of 38 points with 30 coming in the second-half of the victory.
Marie Fletcher walks through an installation in the Gardar Eide Einarsson exhibition Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Fletcher, from New York, was visiting family in the area and wanted to experience The Modern for the first time.
Senior guard Kiarra Shofner, right, shoots over Ladyjacks guard Decreasha Goodner (24) during the Mavericks' 85-79 win over SFA on Wednesday at Texas Hall. The Mavericks' next game will be against Sam Houston State on Saturday in Huntsville.
In his sixth season as Mavericks pitching coach, Jay Sirianni looks to mold the skills of this season’s group of young players and improve the consistency of his returning pitchers. Sirianni said that he observes the individual needs of players in order to help them progress at UTA and in their future draft potential.

Mavs Fall to the Lakers 100-95

Last night was a great game between the #1 and #2 teams in the western conference. An injured Kobe Bryant helped push the Lakers in the second half to be the first NBA franchise in history to reach 3,000 wins even though he scored a season-low 10 points. It was also a historic night for Dirk Nowitzki who became the 34th player in league history to reach 20,000 points in his career. Overall, even though the Mavs lost it was an great game by both clubs who are looking to finish strong going into the All-Star break. Here some shots from the game and some of the excitement of having Kobe in town.
