Shorthorn Shots of the Week 3/30

This belated entry comes after an extremely busy week full of wild art and last minute assignments. It was a good week overall and I even learned a few things. This is going to be short since I still have a backlog of photos to go through including the wedding and my parkour package that will be in the next installment of Shots of the Week. I also shot high school boys soccer for the first time for the Temple Daily Telegram so look for a post on that soon. Enjoy.

After a 20-year disc jockey career, interdisciplinary studies senior David Kenoly will be co-hosting a new talk show on CNN Radio called “On the D. L. with Lane and Dave” starting Monday at 6 p.m. Kenoly and co-host Lane Clark will discuss a wide range of topics from two sides of the political, social and religious spectrum. One topic during the kick-off show will be a discussion titled “Would You Kill Your Child’s Molestor”. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Kenoly said he would probably continue to DJ a few times a week while “On the D.L.” starts up. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Architecture sophomore Eric Hegmann sketches the structure of the teahouse on Monday in the Architecture Courtyard. The drawing of the teahouse’s base structure and connections was part of an exercise for Professor McDonald’s Design and Drawing 1 class. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

MBA students Thao Pham, left, and Ngan Nguyen look at pictures between shots during a photo shoot Monday in the Architecture Courtyard. Photography is a hobby of Nguyen’s and she takes pictures all of the time of her friends for fun. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Sophomore infielder Jordan Vaughn attempts to hit the ball Tuesday during the Mavericks’ 13-1 victory over Louisiana-Monroe at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Mavericks will start a three-game series against Northwestern State on Friday in Louisiana. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Shorthorn Shots of the Week 3/17

This all basketball edition of Shots of the Week comes after a disappointing end to the men's and women's seasons during the Southland Conference Tournament last week in Katy, Texas. The men didn't make it past the first round and the women were knocked out in the second round by Lamar. This year we really wanted to push more online content so for every game I produced stills, galleries and video to supplement our print edition. It was more work than i originally thought and required some adapting but I learned alot from the experience overall. Well, it's spring break so I'm going to go back to thinking about upcoming projects and relaxing before getting back to the daily grind next week.

Shorthorn Shots of the Week 3/6

Last week was an unusually lucky week for me with wildart, or features in some circles. I met alot of interesting people around campus and overall felt pretty good about what I was shooting. It seems like the great weather we've been having lately got everybody out and enjoying the campus a little more. I'm still trying to figure out baseball, not my forte when it comes to sports photography, but I feel like I'm progressing game by game. I shot the Military Science Hall of Honor induction ceremony and experienced the dedication that many ex-Mavericks have to they're military duties. Keeping with experiencing new things, I'm trying to do more video for The Shorthorn and had the opportunity to shoot the Special Events Center Groundbreaking on Friday. It was the first time I really got to shoot with my 5D and 7D side by side. Overall it was a great experience and I look forward to using this versatile setup in the future. This coming week I will be covering the Southland Conference Basketball Tournament in Katy, Texas, so check out theshorthorn.com for updates on my basketball work daily. Hopefully, if all the equipment cooperates, there will be some multimedia to go with the images featuring the seniors of both teams. Stay tuned.

Physics seniors Brandon Butler, right, and Edwin Baldelomar throw a football around Wednesday outside of the Maverick Activities Center. They said they play several times a week to relax and relieve stress after class. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Nursing junior Olivia Anderson, left, and her fellow nursing students lay out in the sun and relax Thursday outside of the Smart Hospital after finishing a workshop and getting out of class early. They said that they wanted to take advantage of the great weather while it lasts. The National Weather Service forecasts the rest of the week to be mostly sunny with temperatures in the high sixties. Industrial engineering sophomore Samuel St. Martin leaps off of a trash can and scales a wall outside of the Fine Arts Building on Tuesday while doing a parkour workout with industrial engineering sophomore Michael Mount, not pictured. Parkour is the physical discipline of training where one adapts their movements to the environment. St. Martin and Mount are members of the new parkour club at UTA and soon hope to start group workouts two times a week. (The Shorthorn: Andrew Buckley)

Freshman infielder Preston Beck (5) slides into second base as Cougars second baseman Dane Nielsen leaps while attempting to tag him out Thursday during the Mavericks’ win over BYU at Clay Gould Ballpark.
