Star-Telegram Shots 1/17

A new year, a new chapter in my career. I have started to shoot more than just sports for the Star-Telegram and am excited to continue my general assignment work in Fort Worth. I shot my usual basketball games then had the opportunity to meet a marathon runner preparing for this month's Olympic Trials in Houston. TCU had an important meeting for season ticket holders to inform them about the seating and seat selection process at their new stadium. I also covered the Girl Scouts' kickoff to their annual cookie sale where thousands of families could pick up their cookies then enjoy a day at the zoo. It's a good start and I am always looking forward to each new assignment. Enjoy.

Mary Hardin-Baylor Falls in the ASC Conference Championship

Over the weekend I had another opportunity to shoot for the Temple Daily Telegram as the Mary Hardin-Baylor took on UT-Tyler, UT-Dallas and eventually falling to McMurry in the American Southwest Conference Tournament Championship. UMHB was not expected to make it past the second round of the tournament but pulled an home court upset against UT-Dallas. I have covered a lot of exciting teams for the Telegram and this definitely continues the legacy. Here are some of my favorite shots from the tournament and I look forward to shooting for the Telegram again in the future.

Shorthorn Shots 2/20

Since my posts now come at random intervals instead of weekly, this will be the first Shorthorn Shots post. Being the Photo Editor takes a lot of time away from shooting but it does help me focus on quality when I do get the opportunity to pick up a camera. Last week, we had Tiger of Bengal, an experimental band based out of D-FW, come in and perform in the middle of the newsroom. It was definitely an interesting and unique way to experience this local band. Then we have some shots from one of the most exciting games i've seen played by the current mens basketball team. They were behind 15 points then came back to win in overtime by one with record breaking crowd of over 1,000 going wild. Enjoy.

Shorthorn Shots of the Week 3/17

This all basketball edition of Shots of the Week comes after a disappointing end to the men's and women's seasons during the Southland Conference Tournament last week in Katy, Texas. The men didn't make it past the first round and the women were knocked out in the second round by Lamar. This year we really wanted to push more online content so for every game I produced stills, galleries and video to supplement our print edition. It was more work than i originally thought and required some adapting but I learned alot from the experience overall. Well, it's spring break so I'm going to go back to thinking about upcoming projects and relaxing before getting back to the daily grind next week.

Shorthorn Shots of the Week 3/6

Last week was an unusually lucky week for me with wildart, or features in some circles. I met alot of interesting people around campus and overall felt pretty good about what I was shooting. It seems like the great weather we've been having lately got everybody out and enjoying the campus a little more. I'm still trying to figure out baseball, not my forte when it comes to sports photography, but I feel like I'm progressing game by game. I shot the Military Science Hall of Honor induction ceremony and experienced the dedication that many ex-Mavericks have to they're military duties. Keeping with experiencing new things, I'm trying to do more video for The Shorthorn and had the opportunity to shoot the Special Events Center Groundbreaking on Friday. It was the first time I really got to shoot with my 5D and 7D side by side. Overall it was a great experience and I look forward to using this versatile setup in the future. This coming week I will be covering the Southland Conference Basketball Tournament in Katy, Texas, so check out theshorthorn.com for updates on my basketball work daily. Hopefully, if all the equipment cooperates, there will be some multimedia to go with the images featuring the seniors of both teams. Stay tuned.

Shorthorn Shots of the Week 2/14

This is going to be a combo post with selections from two weeks at The Shorthorn. It's been a busy two weeks between school, The Shorthorn, my first wedding (pictures to come soon) and working security at NBA All-Star events around DFW. We also had record breaking snowfall in the area, 12.5 inches, that contributed to the madness. KC Hall hosted a kickboxing class to promote activities at the MAC. As the men's and women's basketball seasons come closer to the Southland Conference Tournament, both teams are pushing for position in the standings. I'm a bit behind of updating the blog but hopefully I will have more time in the coming weeks. Enjoy.

Mavs Narrowly Beat Thunder 99-98

The Mavericks broke their 2-game home losing streak last night with a narrow win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have lost nine straight to Dallas and with this loss brings the record to 2-17 between the teams. Kevin Durant, a UT Austin alum, recorded a 30 point and 13 rebound double-double in the loss. Dirk Nowitzki posted is 11th 30-point game of the season with 32 points for the night. Overall, a good game by the Mavs but it never needed to be as close as it was.
